Update on Repairs from December, 2012 San Francisquito Creek Flooding
The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority (SFCJPA – including East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, the San Mateo County Flood Control District, and the Santa Clara Valley Water District) is coordinating a project to protect the community from flooding along the creek. Here is a brief update on repairs made by City staff, and a look at long-term plans:
Flood Repairs from December, 2012 Overflow
- Three small leaks (boils) were repaired on the levee near Verbena Way and Daphne Drive
- Sandbags were installed on top of the levee banks near East Bayshore Road and Verbena Way to enhance flood protection, and recently the City added concrete to those sandbags to increase their longevity
- A portion of the University Avenue Bridge was excavated, inspected, and repaired
- The City completed repairs on the hillside adjacent to Woodland Drive to protect the street and utilities
Long-Term Flood Protection
- A long-term flood protection project is planned for the creek east of Highway 101 to the Bay, to provide increased creek capacity. Depending on available funding, this project could start within two years. After that is complete, other work including bridge replacements can be planned
