Streetlight Placement and Upgrade Project
As part of the City of East Palo Alto Streetlight Placement and Upgrade Project, citywide improvements will be made. The improvements include upgraded streetlight mast arms, new streetlight mast arms, new streetlights, and upgraded fixtures. The project has been split into two phases.
Phase 1 included the installation of mast arms on existing PG&E poles and conversions of existing light fixtures to LED fixtures. The Plans, Specifications and Estimates with additional information on the project can be found here. This project included the installation of approximately 70 streetlight mast arms and the replacement of 12 high pressure sodium (HPS) lights to LED's. All the street light mast arms have been installed, and PG&E connected all the new mast-arms February 2025.
Additionally, as part of a separate street light improvement effort, lighting improvements on Kavanaugh Street and MLK Park were completed. On Kavanaugh Street seven (7) streetlights were upgraded; the existing mast arms on the wooden PG&E poles were replaced with 8-feet mast arms with upgraded LED fixtures.
Phase 2 of the project includes a citywide lighting study and lighting improvements citywide. The citywide lighting study will analyze the existing conditions, identify deficiencies, and then determine the necessary improvements. The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
