To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally file a claim for reimbursement due to vehicle damage caused by a hazardous pothole located on East Bayshore Road directly outside of 2197 East Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto.
In late January 2026, during the evening hours, I was driving my 2018 Audi R8 when I struck a pothole that was not visible or noticeable while traveling. The pothole caused significant damage to my left driver-side tire. Upon inspection, the impact created a dangerous cut in the tire sidewall, exposing the internal steel wires. Due to the severity of the damage, the tire had to be replaced immediately to prevent a potential blowout and ensure safe operation of the vehicle.
The damaged tire was a Pirelli 240 PZ4 P Zero. The replacement was completed on January 24, 2026, at Audi Palo Alto, located at:
1730 Embarcadero Rd
Palo Alto, CA 94303
The total cost for the replacement was $421.32, which I paid out of pocket.
This damage was directly caused by unsafe roadway conditions. As a disabled Navy veteran, I do not have extra financial resources to absorb unexpected expenses caused by hazardous public infrastructure. The condition of this roadway presents a safety risk not only to me but to other drivers as well.
I have already contacted the City Engineer through the contact information provided on the City of East Palo Alto website. I was informed that he would follow up if my claim was not addressed. I am now formally submitting this written claim and requesting reimbursement in the amount of $421.32.
Please advise me of any additional documentation needed to process this claim. I can provide the repair invoice, payment receipt, and photographs of the damaged tire upon request.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Respectfully,
Shah Reeda Badawi
