UPDATE

Police Investigating Death Following Assault in East Palo Alto

 

UPDATE:

On September 8, 2026, the East Palo Alto Police Department, in coordination with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, booked Angel Lopez Ibarra Jr., 53, of East Palo Alto, for the following charges:

 

PC 192(B):  Involuntary Manslaughter

PC 245(A)(4):  Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Great Bodily Injury

PC 12022.7(A):   Causing Great Bodily Injury in the Commission of a Felony

 

The victim has been identified as Andres Alberto Henriquez Gomez, 52, of Menlo Park.

This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

 

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On September 3, 2026, at approximately 2:21 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of University Avenue after receiving reports of a male subject acting erratically and disrobing in public. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim, a 52-year-old Menlo Park resident, who was suffering from significant facial injuries and reported that he had been assaulted by the suspect.

Officers contacted and detained the individual identified by the victim. The suspect, whose name is being withheld while the investigation proceeds, was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of assault resulting in great bodily injury and violation of parole.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., medical personnel at Stanford Hospital notified the department that the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

 

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
