Victim and Witness Assistance Information
If you are a victim who has suffered physical injury or the threat of injury as the result of a crime, we may be able to assist you. Our program provides assistance to eligible victims and/or their family members for out-of-pocket losses, resulting from specific, qualifying crimes.

CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse)
Support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse with an intimate partner. The services are free and confidential. Please call the 24/7 Hotline to speak to a counselor: Hotline number: 800.300.1080

A community advocate is located in EPA and can provide crisis intervention, support, resources, and a safety plan.

This program is a “payer of last resort” meaning if there is any other source of reimbursement (i.e. medical or vehicle insurance), that reimbursement must be utilized first. Victim Center staff will assist victims and/or their family members with filing their claim(s). 
  • The crime must be reported to law enforcement.
  • The victim must cooperate in the investigation and prosecution of any known suspects.
  • The victim must not have contributed to the event, which led up to the crime, or be listed as a suspect in the crime.
  • The victim must not be on Felony Probation or Parole at the time of the incident.

The Victim Center can also provide the following services:

  • Funeral/Burial Assistance
  • Court Escort/Accompaniment
  • Assistance with the Victim Impact Statement

Losses not covered: (While these losses are not covered under VOC, they may be recoverable through court ordered restitution during the defendant's sentencing or by filing a civil lawsuit). 

  • Personal property losses, including cash
  • Pain and suffering
 

Mothers Against Murder

Mothers Against Murder offers a number of resources for victims and survivors of many crimes including counseling and advocacy.
 

U-Visa Certification
The U-Visa Certification is a program provided for those victims of certain types of crimes, who are helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime, and who suffered substantial physical or emotional harm. The U-Visa was enacted by congress to strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to detect, investigate, and prosecute crimes, while offering protection to victims of such offense in keeping with the humanitarian interests of the  United States.

Requests for a “U-Visa Supplement B Certification” should be mailed to

Applications must include:

  1. Completed Supplement B
  2. Copy of the police report for the crime involved
  3. A self-addressed and stamped envelope
  4. An email address and phone number for the requestor

 
In cases where the suspect was arrested, send U-Visa Supplement B requests to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office, 400 County Center, 3rd Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HIS), is committed to protecting the public and ensuring that the rights of victims are carefully observed.  HIS administers the Victim Notification Program which allows eligible victims and witnesses to obtain reliable and timely information regarding a criminal alien’s release from custody.  However, victims and witnesses are required to register with our agency in order to receive notification of a criminal alien’s release.
