Press Release - Dog Attack on One-Year-Old Child

The East Palo Alto Police Department is deeply saddened to report a tragic incident involving a dog attack on a one-year-old child. On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at approximately 07:22 PM, East Palo Alto Police officers responded to the 800 block of Schembri Lane for a reported dog bite resulting in severe injuries to a child.

 

Upon receiving the emergency call, East Palo Alto Police officers immediately responded to the scene. Arriving, our officers swiftly took action to ensure the child's safety, while also initiating measures to control and secure the aggressive dog.

 

Emergency medical personnel with the Menlo Park Fire District and American Medical Response were summoned promptly, and the child was provided aid and swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment.

 

Animal control officers with the Peninsula Humane Society were also called to the scene to assess the situation and take appropriate action regarding the dog involved. The dog has been safely removed from the home and is currently under the care of animal control, pending further investigation. We assure the community that we will work closely with the relevant agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and take appropriate measures necessary to resolve this matter.

 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and their family during this difficult time.  The safety and well-being of our community, especially its most vulnerable members, are of utmost importance to us.  We are closely monitoring the child's condition, and our hearts go out to the family affected by this devastating incident. We urge the community to keep them in their thoughts and respect their privacy during this challenging time.
