Press Release - Murder Investigation April 2024

East Palo Alto Police Star

On April 8, 2024, at 10:59 AM, an East Palo Alto Police Officer was flagged down by a community member who directed him to Newell Road near West Bayshore Road for an injured person.  Upon arrival, the Officer found a deceased male, identified as Leonard Clark (54-year-old East Palo Alto resident) who suffered a fatal wound.  The preliminary investigation was unable to determine a cause of injury, and therefore unable to determine if a crime occurred.  The County homicide protocol was activated, as this incident was treated as a homicide until proven otherwise.

On April 9, 2024 the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on Mr. Clark and determined the source of his wound is criminal in nature.  Mr. Clark is East Palo Alto’s second murder in 2024.

The East Palo Alto Police Department needs our community’s assistance with this investigation.  We can solve this crime with the assistance and support from our community members.
