University Avenue Grand Corridor Project

In 2023, the City applied to the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) 2023 Measure A and Measure W Highway Ggrant Program to study and design improvements along University Avenue from Donohoe Street to the City’s northern limit at Kavanaugh Drive. The goal is to begin in-depth community engagement efforts to develop a plan for the University Avenue Grand Corridor and prepare design documents including plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).

The scope for this project begins with the development of a University Avenue Grand Corridor conceptual plan based on community engagement and visioning, extensive stakeholder input, and an equity assessment. Potential outcomes include but are not limited to: reduce traffic congestion and delay; enhance the regional environment by encouraging more energy efficient transportation modes; promote walking and biking; traffic calming; increasing the accessibility of the system inclusive of those with disabilities; and improving the street connectivity to reinforce the University Avenue local function as a community focal point and gathering place. Subsequently, the project scope includes design phase services including environmental services, right-of-way certification, and completion of a PS&E package.
